About the Life in the UK Test

What is the Life in the UK Test?

The Life in the UK Test, introduced by the British government in 2005, is a requirement for individuals applying for permanent settlement or British Citizenship. Known as the British Citizenship Test, it aims to educate applicants about UK society, including its culture, traditions, and way of life.

To meet the “Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK” (KOLL) requirement, applicants must pass this test and hold an English-speaking and listening qualification at Level B1 (ESOL Entry 3) or higher. Exceptions apply to citizens from English-speaking countries like the USA or Australia, who are exempt from the language requirement.
